“There are no traffic jams along the extra mile”

—Roger Staubach

It has always been a hot button of mine…and as I was putting my thoughts together for this post a couple of road trips to a spot most people would refer to as being the epitome of service and hospitality got put on the books. This enchanting locale is Charleston, South Carolina (aka Disney World for adults); I think they wrote the book on service and manners. You can’t go wrong with just about any choice of accommodations or cuisine but my favorites include The Market Pavilion Hotel with its central location & roof top bar overlooking the architecturally fabulous Cooper River bridge or the slightly more traditional Vendue Inn, equally conveniently located.  Despite the endless foodie options, McCrady’s is still at the top of my list.  I’ll stop here because as most folks will agree, you could go on and on about where to stay, what to eat, what to do, and what to see in Charleston.  Perhaps we’ll revisit again in time for Spoleto!

Onward.

While I am very appreciative of most modern day conveniences such as email, texting, VoIP, etc. and I am certainly all about tackling the Black Friday shopping list from the comfort of my couch; I think there is a lot to be said for getting out amongst friends & neighbors all the while supporting local businesses this holiday season. Every year I find myself at two local establishments for everything from fine holiday cards & stationery to silky pj’s and everything in between.  Best of all, the customer service is above and beyond!  They will help you pick out the perfect gift then proceed to wrap it up so beautifully the recipient will not want to open it.  Presentation matters~ I dare you to disagree!  Check out The Fisherman’s Wife on Airlie Road or Protocol on Wrightsville Avenue.

On your way to a party and need a bottle of bubbly or vino?  Redbank Wine in Mayfaire is the place to go. When I popped in the other day they were in the midst of helping a gentleman stock his new wine cellar….seven cases and counting when I left.  They know their stuff and have a wide variety of price points.

If you are in search of some holiday activities, don’t miss the Wrightsville Beach Holiday Flotilla, Hope from Helen Silent Auction or Enchanted Airlie …..these events along with many others are what help make Wilmington such a fantastic place to live!!!!

P.S.  If you are headed up I40 to THE football game this Saturday stop by my favorite little find from this summer…..Bella Monica in Raleigh has a fantabulous wine list and a killer calzone, not to mention the SALADS!

GO WOLFPACK!
